At a time when inflation stands at 3.5 percent, there are banks that offer deposit accounts with interest rates that are far lower.

One such bank is Pekao, which has said that this is a deliberate policy. The best deposit accounts on the market offer 6-7 percent interest. Dziennik Gazeta Prawna and Finamo decided to look at the bottom end of the market to find out which are the worst offers available.

It turns out that Bank Pekao offers the lowest interest rates there are. Paying zł.10,000 into a standard deposit account for three months, a customer would receive only 1 percent a year in interest.

"The traditional deposit is a product that financial institutions and clients are moving away from in all developed markets," said Pekao's Magdalena Załubska-Król. "For a client who wants to deposit zł.10,000 for three months, we would decidedly recommend a savings account, with 2.8 percent interest," she added.

The bank's representatives say that clients can negotiate terms with them, but the basic rates offered by competitors are significantly higher.
